Artificial Intelligence is reshaping industries worldwide, but some of the most significant opportunities for transformation lie in emerging markets such as Africa, Southeast Asia, and Latin America. In my career, I have had the opportunity to work in emerging markets in Africa, Latin America and Asia. For entrepreneurs in emerging markets, AI can dramatically reduce the barriers to entry. Digital tools make it easier to start businesses faster, connect to global markets, and scale more efficiently. This has profound implications for economic development, particularly in regions where traditional infrastructure can be slow to build. With AI-powered platforms, local innovators can leapfrog legacy systems, creating a wave of entrepreneurship that drives job creation and GDP growth.

Energy plays a central role in this story. Access to reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy is one of the key enablers of economic activity. In many resource-rich economies, however, the reliance on traditional extraction industries has created vulnerabilities, from price volatility to environmental pressures. AI can help address these challenges by optimizing how resources are managed, improving energy efficiency, and enabling predictive maintenance of critical infrastructure. For energy operators, this not only reduces costs but also makes these markets more attractive for long-term investment.
