“First of all, there can be no ‘one size fits all’ ideology. One has to look at what your overall strategy is. From there on, it’s important to see what role talent plays in your organization. Moving forward, all of the aforementioned have got to be played out in strategic conversations.

“I am going to go out on a limb here and say something which may be considered very radical. I think we are all too hung up on retention. Not just retention itself, but also measuring retention. Retention is a lagging indicator. No company would have a problem with retention if they actually gave people opportunities. If we are honest with people in terms of their growth, and we support their development — there would be no need to focus on the lagging indicator that is retention.”
